Club Philosophy: The driving force behind this Club is a membership comprised of people from the community who possess a strong desire to make a positive difference both locally and globally. Rotary thrives because of the diversity of its members, the unique talents they possess and their willingness to employ such within the community in accordance with Rotary goals.
Rotary Motto: This Club wholeheartedly accepts the Rotary Motto of “Service Above Self”. This motto conveys the humanitarian spirit of the organization’s more than 1.2 million members in over 200 countries. Strong fellowship among Rotarians and meaningful community and international service projects characterize Rotary worldwide.
Object of Rotary: All members of this Rotary Club agree to live their lives and conduct their businesses in accordance with the following Object of Rotary:
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
a. FIRST Development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
b. SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
c. THIRD Application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
d. FOURTH Advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
Meeting Attendance: The lifeblood of any organization is its members and this organization strives to keep its members engaged, connected and contributing. Each member understands the importance of attendance; however, there are times when it is not possible or practical for a member to be present. Members unable to attend are requested to notify either the President or Secretary. This not only helps in planning the meeting, but also in keeping members engaged.
Staying abreast of Rotary activities is a vital part in remaining engaged. Visiting other clubs, via direct visit or eClubs, allows for the collection of fresh ideas and improvements to this Club. Learning more about Rotary activities via the Internet furthers our understanding of Rotary and strengthens the pride in being a Rotarian. Therefore, if one is unable to attend the regularly scheduled meeting, the member is encouraged to:
· Attend another Rotary Club meeting (meeting location and time for local area clubs are on the Club’s web site; for other clubs in our District see the District web site, www.rotary7620.org; for all others see the RI website, www.rotary.org.)
· Visit an approved Rotary International eClub meeting. (eClub sites are on the Club web site and the RI website, www.rotary.org.)
· Visit the Club’s web site www.northcalvertrotary.com and review the videos and/or other rotary materials presented.
For administrative reporting of attendance to the Rotary District a member will be credited with attendance if the member has either: attended another Club meeting, visited an approved eClub, visited our Club’s web site, participated in one of our Club Projects, or supported events identified by the President as an attendance alternative (e.g., District Conference, related seminar, etc.) Members will notify the Secretary of having made up a meeting within one week following the absence.
Inclement weather policy: The Club will follow the Calvert County School decision on inclement weather. If schools are closed for the day, then the Club will not meet. The Club will meet if schools are only delayed.
Meal Cost: Members will pay for meals on a flat rate “pay as you go” basis. The rate will be decided by Club member agreement. Current rate is:
· Regular Breakfast Meeting: $8.00/person
· Special Meetings: depends upon the event, price will be determined before the event.
Account Statements: Quarterly bills are issued by the Treasurer and each bill contains the following items:
· Induction Fee: $50 onetime cost for new members
· Dues: $45/Quarter ($15/month) paid in advance.
· Meals: Pay as you go, a flat rate ($10.00/meal), will be paid by the treasurer at each meeting and the member will be billed at the end of the quarter for the regular meeting meals they eat during that quarter. (Note: Special event meals/charges may vary … cost will be approved by the membership prior to the event.)
· North Calvert Foundation: This is an opportunity for members to financially support the Clubs local projects through a tax deductible donation. The amount is strictly up to each member and the amount will be held in confidence by the Treasurer. Letters certifying IRS tax deduction credit will be provided by the Treasurer in January following the tax year.
· Rotary International Foundation (RIF): This is an opportunity for members to financially support the Rotary International Foundation through a tax deductible donation. Again, the amount is strictly up to each member and the amount will be held in confidence by the Treasurer. The Club Treasurer will submit the appropriate RIF form itemizing Club Member RIF donations for the calendar year not later than December 31st. Letters certifying IRS tax deduction credit will be provided by the RIF Treasurer in January following the calendar tax year.
Past Due Accounts: A Rotary member’s account which is 6 months overdue will receive a written letter by the Club President advising him/her of a 30 day restitution period after which the member will be dropped from the Club registry. Reinstatement will be contingent upon paying all back monies owed and meeting the criteria and policies followed for new members.
Leave of Absence: The Rotary Club of Northern Calvert does not have a leave of absence policy. Members who for some reason decide that they are unable to participate in the Club for a specific period of time will advise the President in writing and will be dropped from the registry. They may, however, be reinstated in the Club after meeting the criteria and policies followed for new members. In this instance, the new member initiation fee will be waived. Rotary International permits leave of absence members to remain on the registry and requires payment of quarterly dues. This Club policy eliminates the annual fee requirement for the member and waives any negative impact on the Club attendance record.
Bayside Boys & Girls Club: On November 19, 1999, the Rotary Club of Northern Calvert voted unanimously to sponsor the Bayside Boys & Girls Club (BB&GC). For more information click the following link:B&GCSM, Bayside Unit,.
